Karla + Brian's Whimsical, Woodland Co-Ed Baby Shower

Karla and Brian live on the East Coast and eloped to Iceland together just last year. When they found out they were expecting their first child, they knew they wanted to make their next trip back to the Midwest count and called in reinforcements (us!) to throw a very special co-ed baby shower, surrounded by their families.

Whimsically feminine with a touch of woodland boho. Is it biased to say this is the most beautiful baby shower we’ve even seen?!

We immediately reached out to Candice, the floral mastermind behind Pollen & Pastry, and asked her to create some elaborately detailed driftwood centerpieces. We wanted to create the illusion of wildflowers growing out of the wood in a very wild and organically messy way. Natural, unfinished wooden candlesticks and earth toned tapers finished off the tablescape to keep things simple and uncomplicated.

We also snatched up some beautifully hand-dyed antique taupe fabric to lay down the center of each farmhouse table to keep things soft and to play with different textures.

In an effort to care for the environment (and avoid leaving Karla’s family to wash a bunch of dinnerware), we chose some biodegradable palm leaf plates and cutlery. Not only are they a responsible choice, but they are SO CUTE. The taupe napkins are the result of a quick trip to Joanne’s Fabric and an afternoon spent ripping and tying.

Spruce’s natural wooden tables and mismatched lot of wooden chairs complimented the rustic, woodland look so perfectly.

This cake is my favorite of all.

We found these little toy woodland creatures and whipped up a few mini party hats, then passed them on so Pollen & Pastry could do her thing with the cake.

The signs and wooden stands are little evidences of our labors of love for our clients. (Not to mention a big thanks to some good friends and an evening of mixed drinks.)

Karla calls Brian “baby” and Brian just adores her in all her pregnant glory. We love the way they love one another.

And we love this denim jacket that Karla made for herself. If iron-on letters are the new bling, then we’re totally into it!

Pregnant ladies need to eat and what’s better than a mid-photoshoot picnic snack?

Karla and Brian and their family members handmade several of the details scattered throughout the shower, one of those being this beautiful quilted sign that will hang in their nursery.

Karla and Brian, if the way you love one another is any indication of how you’ll love your daughter, we know you’ll be great parents. Thank you for inviting us to be a part of such a special day with you- it was an absolute honor.

P.S. Is it too soon to start planning her wedding too?
