Jen + Sam's Intimate Picnic at Starved Rock

Give Love Series: Intimate Picnic Vow Renewal
We were beyond pumped to be invited to be the stylists for Chicago’s Give Love Series with Lauren Nicole Photography and Lovely Bride, and we were even more excited when we met Jen + Sam. These two have the best kind of love. It’s the kind that is still giddy, but has had time to mature into a deep respect and admiration for the other over the years.
We immediately bonded over our shared obsession for Parks and Rec and The Office, so it was a no-brainer when it came time to ordering their stationary. Dana, a Chicago local and founder of The Blonde Scribe, helped us surprise our couple with personalized scripts that greeted them at their floating Starved Rock picnic table. We had so much fun playing with a subtle color palette and simple, minimal fonts. (If you look closely, you’ll see why this blog is titled the way that it is.)
If you live in the state of Illinois, you’ve no doubt heard about Tamara’s infamous braids by now. Turns out, that’s not all she can do. She created the most perfect low, messy bun that us common folk can only achieve right before going to bed. (Ladies, you all know exactly what I’m talking about.)
What is more fitting for an intimate picnic than a handful of wildflowers in a straw basket? Lar Living sent the most gorgeous piece our way and Mary from Persephone Floral in Chicago cooked up some incredible floral masterpieces for us to work with.
Our table is actually a long piece of live-edge wood we scavenged off of Craigslist, which Collin then hauled into the heart of Starved Rock by himself. We really wanted to work in a few surprise elements, so Collin managed to balance the board off of the end of some tree branches using rope and a little bit of hardware. Assembling the rest of our farmers market veg and homegrown herbs as our centerpiece was a fun switch, as well as utilizing the wood plank as both: a table and a charcuterie board.
And we couldn’t wait to accessorize our laid-back, minimal picnic tablescape with these gorgeous, handmade wooden spoons. These were sent to us by Kayla, a self-proclaimed “off the grid” momma from the Blue Ridge Mountains. (If you ask us, those spoons are the real MVP.)
It was our greatest honor to experience this day with you, Jen and Sam.
Thank you for the laughs, for eating all the bread, and for welcoming us into such an intimate moment with you.
